Privacy Notice

Known So Far (knownsofar.com) is a spoiler-safe reading companion, operated by Kyle Kendall, an individual doing business as Known So Far (“we,” “us”). This page explains what information we handle. The short version: no accounts, no ads tracking, no cookies for analytics, and we don’t sell your data.
What we collect
Anonymous usage statistics. We use PostHog, set up in a cookieless way, to count visits and see which pages and features are used. We don’t set analytics cookies and don’t store an analytics identifier on your device. Visits are counted using a short-lived, one-way value that can’t follow you from one day to the next. Our analytics record only a coarse reading band (such as “first quarter” or “finished”), never the text you read, your exact position, or what you type into the site. We remove ad-network click identifiers (such as fbclid) from our analytics. We don’t track your country or build a profile of you.
Reading progress. Where the site remembers how far you’ve read, it saves that on your own device and in the page address (URL), so spoilers stay hidden and you can pick up where you left off. Because the address is part of each page request, our hosting provider’s standard request logs can include it. On your device it clears if you clear your site data.
Feedback. If you send feedback, we receive what you type, plus the page, the book and a coarse reading position you were on when you sent it, so we can fix problems. You don’t need an account or to give your name. Please don’t put personal or sensitive information in the text. If you’d like a reply, include a way to reach you in your message; otherwise you can stay anonymous. We keep feedback for about 90 days, limit who can read it, and keep it out of our analytics.
Technical logs. Our hosting provider, Vercel, and our database provider process standard technical data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. We use these logs only for those purposes.
Links with tags. If you arrive from an ad or campaign link, the link may carry a tag (such as utm_source) so we can count which campaigns bring visitors. These tags describe the campaign, not you.
Who processes information for us
- Vercel, which hosts the site and runs scheduled jobs.
- Neon, our database provider (servers in the United States).
- PostHog, our anonymous analytics provider (US cloud).
Information is processed in the United States. If you’re in the EU, UK or elsewhere, that means your information may be transferred to the US, where these providers apply their own safeguards.
What we don’t do
- We don’t use the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) pixel or similar ad-tracking tools on this site, and we don’t retarget visitors.
- We don’t sell or share your personal information for advertising.
- We don’t build profiles of individual readers.
Third-party links and affiliate links
Some “Buy” or “Listen” links go to Bookshop.org or Libro.fm. They’re affiliate links: we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. We don’t sell or publish those books. Once you click, the other site’s own privacy policy and cookies apply, not ours. If you arrive from Instagram, Instagram’s own policies apply to that app.
Why we handle this information
We use it to run and secure the site, understand what’s useful, fix problems and answer feedback. Where the law requires a legal basis (for example in the EU or UK), it is our legitimate interest in operating and improving a simple, privacy-friendly service.
Your choices and rights
To ask what we hold about you, to correct or delete it, or to raise any privacy question, use the feedback form on any page and start your message with “Privacy request.” Include a way to reach you if you’d like a reply or confirmation; without one we can still act on a request, but we can’t write back. Because we don’t keep accounts and our analytics can’t identify you, we may not be able to find your feedback unless you tell us roughly when you sent it and what it said. We aim to respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Known So Far isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has sent us personal information, tell us through the feedback form and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If we change how we handle information (for example, adding accounts or a different analytics setup), we’ll update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
